Presidental Families
Who was the first child born in the President's House now called the White House? James Madison Randolph, son of Martha Jefferson and Thomas Mann Randolph Jr., was the first child born in the President's House, on January 17, 1806. He was born on one of his mother's lengthy stays in the capitol while Thomas Jefferson her father was President. President Jefferson insisted on choosing the names of all his grandchildren himself, naming this grandson after his good friend James Madison.
