Day Trip

Living in Northwest Ohio we are surrounded with abundant history and events that help shape America. One such location is the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center located in Fremont Ohio. It is an easy 1 hour drive from the Toledo OH area and well worth the visit. The Hayes Presidential Center includes the home, library, museum, tomb, and 25-acre park-like estate (called Spiegel Grove) of the 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes. Entrance to the property is through the original gates from the White House. It was very relaxing walking the grounds and very somber at the Presidents tomb. Lucy, his wife is entombed with the President.

Their home called Spiegel Grove is a treasure waiting to be explored.

The museum is filled with personal mementos of the President and his wife Lucy. As well as a vast amount of Civil War Documents and an outstanding collection of Southwest Native American Baskets, Accoma Pottery and many other Indian mementos he acquired during his presidency.
The whole experience was very pleasant and I would recommend that everyone visit the Hayes Presidential Center to experience some Presidential history.
